Beautiful Christmas Decor On A Tight Budget

Sometimes you have too much fun blowing the budget on gifts, and there’s not much leftover for the decorating part of Christmas. So, then what? How do you get your home looking holiday ready on a budget?

Great question! The name of the game is called, “Make it work.” That’s my favorite quote from Tim Gunn, of course. There’s really no need to buy new Christmas decor every year. You can easily change up the look with a few simple supplies. Just purchase these three things: ribbon, fruit, and fresh greens, and you’ll be good to go.

Let me show you what I mean…

I got this wreath last year from HomeGoods. It used to have gold ornament balls attached here and there. I left them on last year because it was a last minute throw-it-up-on-the-door situation. This year…new door, new me. The ornaments were not gonna cut it, so I clipped them off. Yep, you heard that right, I clipped the balls off. I purchased some silk ribbon from Etsy and voila, a brand new wreath.

Cost: wreath free ($24.99 last year), 2 yards of ribbon $10.00.

This year I decided to step up my outdoor Christmas game, just a bit. I purchased some fresh greens from my local produce store for $6 each (one for each lantern).

Again I added ribbon for a grand total 8 bucks.

Here are some of my fav ribbons from Etsy.

In addition to these gathered greens, I also purchased a bundle of loose greens and I’ve used them just about everywhere. Pine, eucalyptus, and cedar, a cheap but chic bunch.

I’ve had these ornaments forever, so they count as being free. I tucked in a few sprigs of greens here and there to complete the look.

Total cost $3.50 (fresh greens). If you want to recreate this look but don’t have the ornaments just buy some cheap plastic ones. Don’t worry, the fresh greenery will elevate the whole look.

The next thing I purchased, at said produce store, was a bag of naval oranges. I absolutely love oranges at Christmas time. It’s a fresh take on the whole red and green situation, which helps those who are not big fans of the color red. Myself included. Dry them in the oven (tutorial here) and they’ll last the whole holiday season.

Total cost approximately $6.00: mini loaf pan free (I’ve had it for years), oranges $2.50, greens $3.50.

I snatched up a bag of Clementines too, in order to continue the orange color story. Bonus, they’re a delicious snack when you’re in the mood for something sweet.

That’s it for the new Christmas decor this year. According to my calculations, I spent about $35.00. Considering these things are spread throughout my home, that’s some really good bang for the buck.

Grab yourself some oranges and fresh greenery from the grocery store, then order a few yards of ribbon and your home will be holiday ready on a shoestring budget.

That’s all for this week, friends! I’ll be back next week, but meanwhile come hang with me on Instagram!

Wishing you a beautiful, and healthy, week ahead.
